Intro to Capoeira: 4-Week Workshop Series

Step into the vibrant world of Capoeira—a unique Afro-Brazilian art form combining martial arts, dance, music, acrobatics, and tradition.

Whether you are completely new to martial arts or looking for a holistic way to improve your movement, mobility, and fitness, this 4-week introductory workshop will guide you step-by-step through the core elements of Capoeira in a friendly, supportive environment.

📅 Workshop Agenda

Session 1: Basic Movements
- Learn the foundation of Capoeira: the Ginga (fluid footwork), fundamental defensive evasions (esquivas), basic push kicks, and essential ground transitions.
Session 2: Basic Music
- Experience the heartbeat of Capoeira. Get hands-on introduction to traditional instruments (including berimbau, atabaque, pandeiro, agogô, and reco-reco), rhythm, and simple Portuguese call-and-response songs.
Session 3: Basic Game Dynamics
- Discover how movement and music connect. Learn how to dynamic-play with a partner using attack, defense, space awareness, and tactical flow in a controlled setting.
Session 4: Putting It All Together – Roda de Capoeira
- Integrate everything you’ve learned into the Roda (the circle where Capoeira takes place). Participate in the music, movement, and community energy in your very first full Capoeira experience!

When: Thursdays in September (7:30 PM – 9:00 PM)

Where: Armadale Bowls Club — 41 Sussex Rd, Caulfield South VIC 3162

What to Wear/Bring: Comfortable training pants (track pants/leggings recommended), a light t-shirt, and a water bottle. Training is barefoot. No prior experience necessary!
