Introduction to Coiled Basketry
Description
An introduction to working with plant fibres -
Learn to coil a small basket using locally foraged materials.
Coil weaving has functional roots dating back centuries.
Indigenous cultures across the world have used natural fibres to weave rope, baskets, hats, tea filters, seed-sifters, mats & more.
In this workshop you will learn the ancient art of coil weaving — as both craft & medicine.
You will create your own unique basket using locally foraged plants that are commonly used in traditional basket making.
We will go over plant identification, sustainable harvesting and preparation too.
This is a meditative practice that invites mindfulness through repetitive movement — a gentle way to soothe the soul.
All materials provided.
No prior experience required.
You will leave this workshop with the skills and confidence to continue your coiled basketry journey at home.
I believe creative expression can thrive in harmony with the planet - and in turn, provide harmony within us.
I am dedicated to inspire and show others how to create art in a sustainable, waste-free way.
