    Event description

Fermentation is not only great for improving gut health and preserving excess garden produce, it allows you to explore the world through traditional recipes and unlock a world of new flavour too! In this hands-on workshop your instructor Martina will share the process of Lacto-fermentation and how to do it step by step at home. In this 2.5hr workshop Martina will cover:

    • Overview of the Lacto-fermentation process
    • How to ferment safely and what to watch out for
    • Basic equipment to acquire
    • Hands-on making of:
      • German Sauerkraut
      • Korean Kimchi
      • Ginger Carrots
    • Suggestions and inspiration for other delicious ferments to try at home
    • Tastings of the above and other fermented products

Leave with a jar of Sauerkraut, Kimchi, or Ginger Carrots and the recipes, knowledge and confidence to make much more at home.

Most equipment and materials are provided, but please bring a couple of wide-mouth clean glass jars for your products.

    Meet Martina

Martina has been teaching Permaculture Design, Permaculture Living Skills and Sustainability for the last six years through her business Permaculture Educators Alliance. She is also the Education Lead of Perth City Farm. In her spare time, she's an avid home cook and preserver. She loves to experiment with new flavours and preserving methods.

Our weekly farmer's market will be in full swing during your workshop, so it's worth arriving a little early to check out the stalls and maybe buy some fresh produce.

Perth City Farm is a community urban farm that supports connected, sustainable communities. Established on a former industrial site in East Perth, this polluted site has been lovingly rehabilitated by volunteers to become a Western Australian icon for environmental sustainability and community engagement. We provide space and opportunities to build community connections, and educate and enable people to live sustainably.
