The human figure is the single most expressive image available to the artist. This is a fun and informative course aimed at
learning the fundamentals of sculpting the human figure.

What will be covered in this course?

The course will cover traditional methods of building up the figure with plasticene over a posable and re-usable armature, exploring anatomy,
proportion and gesture.

By the end of this course students will have learnt?

Students will have a more confident understanding of the human form and be able to apply these skills to their own artistic/creative practice.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

A material pack (armature wire, plasticene and tools) will be supplied by the Tutor at cost (Approximately $40-$50). Bring long nose pliers if you have them.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

John Van Der Kolk originally trained as an industrial designer/pattern-maker and has been a practicing sculptor for 30 years. He has won numerous awards including the Medici Medal (1st prize) for sculpture at 2007 Florence Biennale.

John has been running sculpture/carving, casting and mould making workshops at TAFE and his
Woolgoolga Studio for the past 20 years. John has works in public and private collections nationally and internationally. His passion for
sculpture has involved him on large scale public projects in China, Turkey, USA, Cambodia and Nepal.
John enjoys nothing more than passing on his knowledge to others and to see where they take it.
