Introduction to Making Miniatures Workshop 1-Making Miniature Bread

A ‘miniature’ is a reproduction of something in a greatly reduced size. People have always been fascinated by miniatures dating back thousands of years, with early civilizations such as the Egyptians, crafting small-scale representations of homes, ships, chariots and models of daily life.

This workshop will introduce you to miniature model making:

• Learn the basics of working in polymer clay to make miniature food, including shaping, texturing and colouring with soft pastels.

• Learn to make realistic bread, including individual slices and butter.

• Use your completed bread to create a mini scene by adding your choice of plates, bread boards, butter dishes and knives; or create a fridge magnet or wearable brooch instead.

Recommended for: Beginners or intermediate crafters looking for something different.

(Includes the use of sharp implements, glue and oven for baking clay)

Duration: 2 hours

Cost: $50 includes tuition and all materials.

Your Tutor: Lisa studied traditional fine art at college, followed by textile design at university, but came to model making only a few years ago. She enjoys this form of creative expression as it encompasses a vast array of media and crafting skills. Lisa produces detailed, realistic miniatures of everyday life including tiny food, furniture, fixtures and fittings.
