About Your Teacher, Trainer, Coach, and Mentor for all Workshops

We have learned that spending time in our twenties to discover our passions leads us to the desire to turn them into a vocation, in our thirties we invest time to become well educated and in working in that vocation, once working we master our skills through our forties and from fifty onwards to assist in the development of others we turn to spend our time educating in these topics we feel passionate about.

Enter Dave Spicer - The Bastard from the Bush  [Bill RIP]

Having worked in all sorts of industries in his 20s Dave was drawn to the practical effects of Permaculture design, inspired by Bill's Global Gardener series.

Given the directive to act, Dave attended a PDC Bill was teaching in Tasmania, loved it, and wanted more, volunteered with Geoff Lawton, and at that time found a real connection with earthworks and their ability to transform a space.

Having kept a strong interest in ecological earthworks and always been handy on a shovel, several years later an opportunity arose to work with Bill and Lisa in Tasmania on the farm and there started the excavator journey gaining command of the controls with a design mind.

Over time, as confidence built, and experience grew reading the land, Dave developed the art and skill of earth surgery. The idea of Doc Spice Permaculture was born.

The love of installing earthworks in an artful form has taken Dave to work all over Oz, Morocco, New Caledonia, the USA, Portugal, and India. designing and constructing water retention earthworks for human habitats in many different climates and landforms.

Building 'lifeboats',  as a place for respite, growing and eating real food under the shade of a tree or vine is a real passion and a driving force behind what Dave is about, while continuing to consult, design and install Permaculture systems.
