Introduction to Portraiture - with Alex Beckinsale
Event description
Join us for this immersive 4-week Introduction to Portraiture.
The course includes:
- an introduction to proportions and planes
- using shading to add realism to portraits
- an introduction to working from life
- the differences and benefits of short-timed poses for sketches, and longer poses for more refined drawing, and
- working on toned paper.
Suitable for ages 15+. No previous drawing experience required.
Your tutor Alex is an early-career artist who focuses on figurative art and portraiture and graduated from the Adelaide Central School of Art with a Bachelor of Visual Art with Honours in 2016.
She has been working as a Visual Arts instructor since 2011, teaching at The Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide Central School of Art (ACSA), Carclew and with many other South Australian Arts organisations. She was Adelaide Central School of Art’s Youth & Community Engagement Coordinator between 2020-2023, and began lecturing in ACSA’s degree program in Drawing in 2023. Alex is now an experienced tutor who is ideal to guide beginners and more experienced participants in their exploration of Portraiture.
