Introduction to Queer Community Building
Event description
Join the Jeder Institute and Tathra Street for an introduction to Queer Community Building, a transformative program designed to create the conditions to empower individuals, grassroots community groups, organisations, and businesses in the LGBTQIA+ community.
This session offers a glimpse into how we can collectively build stronger, more resilient communities by leveraging our unique strengths, talents, and experiences. Rather than focusing on needs and deficits, we’ll explore ways of mobilising local wisdom and assets to address complex, generational challenges.
We’ll cover foundational concepts like Asset-Based Community Development, Trauma-Informed Community Building, and Conscious Co-design, all tailored to the unique dynamics of queer communities. Whether you're a community member, pride organiser, or part of an LGBTQIA+ organization, this session will offer a fresh perspective of what's possible in our diverse communities.
The one-hour introductory session will provide information about an upcoming two-day session on Queer Community Building with practical tools and insights to foster sustainable, inclusive change.
This workshop was delivered at the InterPride Global Conference and AGM in San Diego last year, Manchester Pride (UK) said:
"I had the pleasure of attending the workshop with Lee and Dee, and it was absolutely amazing! In such a short time, they tackled big, transformative ideas that have completely reshaped how I approach working with communities. It was incredibly inspiring to look beyond the usual participatory models and recognise the incredible talents and resources within communities that can spark real, lasting change. Lee and Dee are phenomenal facilitators—everyone left feeling energized and ready to put these ideas into action. Over the past year, we've embraced their approach across our team, and it's become a core part of how we're shaping our future strategies."
Come discover how to build community from the inside out, creating lasting impact through connection, collaboration, and shared leadership.
There is no cost to attend this session.
