Event description

Do you want to learn how to repair your clothing? Visible mending and stitching, patchwork and embroidery are fantastic ways to make your wardrobe more sustainable, is easy, fun, creative and adds individual flair to your wear!

The Parramatta Women's Shed is partnering with Boomerang Bags Parramatta to a series of free workshops aimed at women, to celebrate Women's Week; we'd love to see you there!

This 2-hour workshop will give women solid, practical beginners experience in applying hand stitching techniques to repair worn-out pre-loved items and extend their life.

You will learn how to do the following:

  • Choose simple stitches to repair holes in garments
  • Choice of cottons, threads, needles and textiles
  • Reinforcing your repairs
  • Alternative techniques, patches and visible mending

All tools and materials will be provided for all workshops., but it is recommended to bring an item from home you wish to repair (eg. jeans with hole in knee, rip or tear.)

The event is on Saturday, 11th of March. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time.

The venue is the Reg Byrne Community Hall, which is on the corner of Fyall and Darcy Streets in Wentworthville. There is ample free parking. The hall is a 15-minute walk from Wentworthville train station.

The hall is accessible with a ramp, and we are part of the Welcome Here Project, LGBTQIA+ friendly.

A light afternoon tea will also be provided. We'd love for you to please bring a reusable mug.

Boomerang Bags Parramatta's monthly bag-making bee will also be on at the same time, so feel free to stay on after your workshops to see what we do and join in - no sewing experience needed! All welcome!

It is free, but registration is essential. These workshops have limited space, so book now!

During Women’s Week, we will also be collecting old mobile phones and laptops to donate to The Reconnect Project, so feel free to bring your pre-loved digital devices to the event, which we will collect for donation.
