Introduction to Rongoā Māori
Event description
A one-day workshop which takes participants through the tikanga and practice of identifying, collecting, gathering and using Rongoā Māori Native plants for everyday use.
Immerse yourself for the day in the beautiful Taiao (natural world) of the Okuti Valley and be guided through the peaceful Manaia Reserve to identify a myriad of plants used in Rongoā Māori practice.
We will hono (connect) with the Kaitiaki of the space, the ancient Tuna Eels) and spend lunchtime next to the awa/river.
Your experience will be taught by Kai Rongoā and Kaimirimiri, Chelita Kahutianui o te Rangi Zainey, who will engage everyone in learning and growing their knowledge around Rongoā Māori.
The afternoon will be spent looking at the many ways in which we can utilise Rongoā for our own and whanau wellbeing.

~ An immersive ngahere/bush experience learning about Rongoā Māori
~ A complete and safe understanding of the tikanga and kawa surrounding Rongoā Māori
~ A comprehensive introduction into plant identification and uses
~ Indepth and detailed workbook
~ Taonga Pūoro sound elements throughout the day
~ Rongoā Māori tasting and sampling
This will be the only Rongoā Māori workshop for the 2022/2023 season.
Tickets are strictly limited.
We will supply some healthy kai to share for lunch but please also bring your lunch or something to share.
