Event description

INTRODUCTION TO THE CRAFT OF ACTING

Over eight 2-hour classes Barry Kay will take students through some fundamentals of the craft of acting – with a particular focus on aspects of the Stanislavski approach. The classes will emphasise a sense of play & connection, harnessing the imagination, using emotional memory, exploring psychological & physical action, and the importance of boldness, generosity and sensitivity. Additionally, aspects of script analysis (including the power of subtext) will be explored, along with the importance of research, identifying character objectives & obstacles, and voice technique & physicality (acting with the whole body).

Participants will be taught to apply these points of focus as they work on characters through scene work culminating in a final ‘showing’.

At the end of the 8-week course, participants should have an understanding of some of the tools and techniques they can apply to their acting.

These classes are aimed at adults with a desire and commitment to honing and refining their acting skills and developing technique. There will be an expectation that participants are able to commit to undertaking some tasks between classes – e.g. learning lines, script analysis, research, etc.
