Event description

Introduction to Writing Workshop

(Bookmaking & Writer's Notebook)

2 day Mini Course - 6th March, 2021 AND 29th May, 2021

Registration is for both days!

Facilitated by Amanda Bartram

This new model combines the existing Introduction to Bookmaking & Introduction to Writer's Notebook Mini courses.  Amanda will introduce the philosophy behind Writing Workshop in Preschool and Primary School settings. It will include introductions to "Making Books" and "Writer's Notebooks" as two 'containers' for writing within the Writing Workshop.  This is an ideal workshop for teams to participate in together.

Being a writer is more than knowing how to put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard. Understanding how to craft effective writing to convey an intended message involves complex composing decisions alongside knowledge of language conventions. Strong writers think about their audience, the purpose for writing and select the most appropriate crafting techniques for their needs. They learn to think like a writer: collecting ideas for writing, thinking about word choice, sentence fluency, structure and how to bring authentic voice to their writing.

Can you imagine signing up for a class to learn piano from a teacher who does not actually play piano? This workshop will place particular emphasis on the importance of teachers writing themselves. Getting inside the head of a writer empowers teachers to make the thinking of a writer visible for the children they teach. Engaging in writing with and for your children is the most powerful tool a teacher of writing can have.
