Description

School Holidays FUN with the Investigators Garden Club!

Enter the garden of earthly delights to discover how an apple core can transform into a carrot!

Join us for this FREE community performance of The Compost Play a funny and immersive theatre show exploring the importance of healthy ecosystems: seed saving, composting, planting, the wonders of living soil and much more.

After the show stick around for immersive activities 'The Hidden World of Soil’ or ‘Magic of Seeds’ (each child can only attend one activity).

Suitable for kids aged 5-10 years old. Please note that children must be accompanied by a guardian and be appropriately supervised by you at all times.

The play runs for 25 minutes and the activities run for 25 minutes.

Please book a ticket for each adult and child attendee.

About Investigators Garden Club

Developing innovative ways to educate children and our wider community about the cycle of living things is a passion of Jacqui Hunter, of Hunter Gatherings, ever since she role-played ‘the soil’ during a Permaculture Design Course in the mid ‘90s!

Despite being a key ecosystem process that sustains life on earth, this cycle is frequently misunderstood. Organic waste is sent to landfill, soil nutrients are depleted and consumers often choose highly processed food with huge food miles and excessive packaging.

And so when invited to present about compost for Port Adelaide Enfield Council’s ‘Reduce Food Waste through Art Project’ in 2018, the beginnings of the Compost Play emerged. Costumes of food scraps, worms and mycelium created a whole-body experience of nutrient cycling, where each participant became part of the compost action — transforming food scraps into carrots!

Please contact the Port Environment Centre if you have any mobility or access concerns or other event enquiries (0488 229 925 or email hello@portenvironmentcentre.org.au)

The Port Environment Centre is funded by Green Adelaide with additional support from the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the Suzanne Elliott Charitable Trust.

Attendee information may be used for follow up evaluation, in order to assess the longer term impacts of our events. Follow up contact may be made (in the form of a survey) but participation in any evaluation is optional.
