INVISIBLE THEATRE
29-30 OCTOBER 2022 - Saturday & Sunday - 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
“Invisible Theatre makes oppression visible” (Augusto Boal)
INVISIBLE THEATRE, one of the main techniques of Theatre of the Oppressed, was developed by Brazilian theatre director Augusto Boal in the 1970’s as an influential method to generate public discussion about oppression and effect transformation in the lives of people and their communities.
Through practical activities, discussions and historical overview of Boal's INVISIBLE THEATRE methodology, participants will have an in-depth experience of how this form of theatrical play can be a powerful tool for social reflection and action. The workshop includes games and group exercises to develop the physical senses, rhythms, sounds, space awareness, relationships, memory, emotions and imagination.
The weekend-long experience will culminate in an "invisible" short performance that will be staged in public space, where involuntary viewers become active participants of a real situation.
The workshop is led by D.I.V.E. Theatre Collective’s Artistic Director Cesar Genaro, who was born and trained in Brazil, having used and disseminated TO’s techniques throughout his career as an actor and director.
