Open invitation: Launch of revitalised Great Te Arawa Stories Website and Pathways to Aotearoa History Event

Rotorua Library, Te Aka Mauri, would like to invite all teachers and educators to celebrate the launch of the revitalised Great Te Arawa Stories website through a special event for local educators.

Join us at 4pm on Wednesday 11 June, at Te Aka Mauri, to:

  • Celebrate the next step for this valuable taonga.
  • Learn how it can support learning.
  • Find out what other valuable resources are available at the library.
  • Discover the programmes for schools offered by the library and museum education teams.

Please share the invitation with your colleagues and bring friends and whānau who may be interested in learning more about this resource.

More about the site

Previously known as He Pātaka Pūrakau - Te Arawa Digital Storehouse, this website, and the wealth of information it holds, was a koha from Ngā Pūmanawa e Waru Education Trust to the Rotorua education sector.

When the trust disbanded, Rotorua Library was identified as the best custodian of this rich taonga.

One important change to the website, generously funded by Rotorua Trust and BayTrust, has to been to categorise stories so they easily link to the new Aotearoa New Zealand's Histories Curriculum.

This kaupapa aims to build an inspiring space that stimulates learners to discover more about the world of Te Arawa and encourages them to consider their own place in that world.
