INVITATION | IOTA24 - Evening Viewing: Woven Together + Mara, Jinbi, Ngurra

Event description

As dusk turns to night, we're throwing the doors of FORM Gallery open for an intimate evening viewing of our latest exhibitions Woven Together + Mara Jinbi, Ngurra.

Part of the 2024 Indian Ocean Craft Triennial (IOTA24), these complementary exhibitions showcase works by Pilbara-based Aboriginal artists from Spinifex Hill Studio in South Hedland, and Yinjaa-Barni Art in Roebourne, in collaboration with leading craft practitioners Sandra Black (WA), Jacky Cheng (WA) and Paula do Prado (NSW), who also present their own exploratory artworks.

Over the last 18 months, FORM has supported artists from Spinifex Hill Studio and Yinjaa-Barni Art in expanding their celebrated painting practices to express stories of culture and Country through new mediums. Woven Together is the result of Spinifex Hill Studio hosting textiles practitioners Jacky Cheng and Paula do Prado in a series of residencies sharing weaving techniques. And, as part of FORM's Roebourne Arts Development Program, artists from Yinjaa-Barni Art have been mentored in ceramics by porcelain master Sandra Black, the outcomes of which can be seen in Mara, Jinbi, Ngurra (Hands, Clay, Country).

Woven Together and Mara, Jinbi, Ngurra continue until Saturday, 28 September 2024.

NOTE: Light refreshment provided.
