IPEPA WA Culture Centred Palliative Care - "An Aboriginal Perspective"
Event description
This two-day workshop is designed for health professionals working with Aboriginal clients to develop their skills in caring for Aboriginal people and their families facing a life limiting illness and will explore the topics of cultural awareness in palliative care. The workshop will be presented by a variety of specialists utilising case studies and group discussion.
Target Audience: All Health Professionals working with Aboriginal clients and their families.
Education Overview:
To enhance the capacity of the non-Indigenous health workforce to provide quality, holistic and culturally responsive palliative care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding Aboriginal culture and history within a local context.
- Enhance the capacity on non-Indigenous health workforce to provide culturally responsive care to their Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander clients and families.
- Develop awareness to provide a culturally safe environment for clients, families and staff within your health care setting.
- Develop an understanding of how to provide a holistic and culturally responsive palliative care.
- Understanding of advance care yarning with your Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders clients and how to facilitate a culturally appropriate family meeting.
- Provide non-judgemental care in the place of choice informed by the client and family.
- Understanding the differences between regional and remote care and getting your client home to Country.
- Understanding sorry business and traditions surrounding Aboriginal loss, grief and bereavement.
Department of Health-End-of-Life and Palliative Care Education and Training Framework
The End-of-Life and Palliative Care Education and Training Framework is a tool outlining the essential knowledge and skills for healthcare professionals caring for those with end-of-life needs. It consists of three domains: Principles of Practice, Clinical Management, and Leadership/Management. Each domain's learning items are categorised into three expertise levels: Foundation, Consolidation, and Extension, forming a continuum of learning.
This education is at the WA DoH Framework Domain Level: Foundation.
