Event description

Sign up for 4 sessions of iRest Yoga at once!

Tuesdays 20th of April to 11th of May 3:00pm to 4:30pm

If you’re anything like me you were raised and taught to be polite, work hard, do the right thing and be punctual. These skills were great, but we weren’t taught about how to be present and undistracted or not to be anxious and stressed.

To just be here and nowhere else doesn’t always come naturally.

Based on ancient teachings of meditation iRest Yoga Nidra is a modern, evidence-based practice that is easily accessed, deeply restful and integrative. Simply put iRest helps people to find resilience, joy, and a greater sense of peace and wellbeing by accessing a healing place that lies between being awake and asleep.

It’s a simple form of meditation designed for everyday living that provides you with tools to help you relax deeply, release stress, increase resiliency, improve your interpersonal relationships and provide you with greater mastery and control in your life.

People who practice iRest report:

● Reduced depression, fear and anxiety

● Reduced insomnia and levels of stress

● Reduced chronic and acute pain

● Greater ability to relax and enjoy life

● Improved interpersonal relations Increased inner peace and well-being.

This mind-body approach is the result of thirty years of observation, research and hands-on development by Dr. Richard Miller and associates. Please visit www.irest.us for more information.

    About Me

Hi, my name is Georgina and I discovered Yoga in my middle age and recognized it immediately as something I needed in my life. In fact, my journey from that first class to a senior Yoga Teacher and Certified Yoga Therapist commenced in that first class!

After years of my own regular meditation practice, I attended an iRest Teacher training and was impressed with its effect on the wide range of students in the class. Since then, I’ve delivered iRest sessions in part and full to groups of yoga students and have committed to a rigorous 2-year certification process.

Apart from a lot more personal practice, supervision, study, and reading I’m required to make some recordings of iRest classes to be assessed by my trainers. I’ve been talking with the wonderful staff at OWN in Newtown for a while now and it occurred to me the OWN members might be interested in trying iRest out too.

If you’re curious about this meditation technique, I’ll be offering 4 x weekly sessions as an introduction and if there’s interest we could continue on for a couple more weeks.

I’d like to have a quick chat with participants beforehand to get some basic information and other than that your permission for me to record my voice delivering a couple of the meditations – no discussions or images will be captured – I promise!

Thanks to OWN providing the space and technology the course will be free. We have up to 8 places available in the group space in Newtown and up to 8 spaces on Zoom for those living in Rural and Remote areas.

    What You’ll Need to Bring

To do iRest you don’t need to do anything complicated just a comfortable place, either seated or lying down. It’s commonly practiced lying down so a Yoga Mat, pillow for your head and maybe a light blanket will be useful as body temperature often drops after resting for 30 minutes or so.

If you’re on Zoom a quiet room where you will be undisturbed and the above gear or you can lie on a lounge or bed - although be aware people on beds often go to sleep ☺

    What after I register?

Georgina will give you a call in a week or two after Easter to see if you have any health issues to be aware of, to explain a bit more about how each session will progress, and check contact details. It’s also a good time to ask any questions you have

Your zoom link will be sent two days and two hours before every class.
