Description

Irish republican socialist delegation speaks on the prisoners hunger striking for Palestine.

Dear friends, family and comrades,

There are currently over 30 prisoners on long remand due to alleged participation in disarmament actions and the designation of direct action group Palestine Action as "terrorist". On November 2nd, two of these prisoners commenced a hunger strike and have since been joined by another four.

Join us, on the 35th day of the hunger strike, for this panel discussion to give perspective from the Irish context. We’ll hear about the situation facing the political prisoners, and how to use moments of escalating repression to build our solidarity for the prisoners, and our resistance to the genocide.

Our speakers include:

Bernadette Devlin McAliskey - Irish republican, former MP & life long political activist against colonialism & imperialism.

Tommy Mc Kearney - Irish republican socialist, former political prisoner & participant of the 1980 Hunger Strike in Long Kesh political prison.

Gary Donnelly - Independent republican councillor for Derry, former political prisoner & member of the "Raytheon 9".

Saoirse don Phalaistín! Free Palestine! - The prison action is sending solidarity to the many thousands of Palestinian people being held in the most inhumane & horrific conditions in Israeli prisons. Movements in Ireland have learnt how to use escalating state repression to galvanise anti-colonial struggles - we hope to share that history in the service of the movement to free Palestine.

Support the hunger strike! We will hear about the situation of the prisoners who are in jail on long term remand and how we can support.

De-proscribe! Condemnation of the proscription has been clear and swift in the occupied six counties of Ireland. For us, this is a re-purposing of the same tools of political repression that have attempted to brutalise our struggle for freedom and all those who dare to stand in the way of Britain's colonial projects. How can we build our resistance to this proscription? How can we learn lessons from the experiences of the struggle against British imperialism & colonialism in Ireland?

Solidarity with all prisoners! As International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners falls this week, we must place ourselves in solidarity with the untold numbers of political prisoners who are behind bars for resisting the colonial capitalist systems. We must call out the placing into prison and immigration detention centres all who suffer from the affects of systemic oppression on our daily lives.

Ní saoirse go saoirse chách! - No one is free until all are free!
