Islander
Event description
ATYP brings a beloved musical into a bold new chapter reimagined through a Pacific Island and Australian lens.
On a remote island at the edge of the ocean, young Eilidh stands at a crossroads. The mainland promises opportunity, yet the traditions that shaped her are slipping away. When a mysterious stranger is pulled from the waves, Eilidh’s world widens in unexpected and life-changing ways.
Islander unfolds through two performers who shape an entire community before your eyes, shifting between characters and building the soundscape live with vocal looping and layered recording. Every harmony is created in real time, powered by a shimmering, folk-inspired score.
As island and regional communities across the Pacific and Australia face profound change, Islander becomes a modern fable for our time, a story about connection, resilience, and the courage to stand together against the rising tide.
