Event description

What could I show
What could I say
What could I do that would make any difference

A Law Student. Someone on a cliff’s edge. A victim of limerence. They who are watched. An environmental activist. A grieving vet. They who are misunderstood. Today’s informed.

A new play co-written and co-directed by Gryff Connah and Emmaline May, ‘Ismenia’ interrogates the realities of indecision in today’s world. Drawing inspiration from the character of Ismene, of Sophocles’ ‘Antigone’, this work interweaves eight monologues exploring vacillation and uncertainty with devised sequences, to put forward the question: is it better to act, or to yield?

In a world where the need for action is keenly felt, ‘Ismenia’ offers a response that is open-ended, unique, and unrestrained. This work is prepared to make change. Are you?

We pay our respects to our original storytellers, the elders of past, present, and emerging. We encourage our audiences to check out the work of ILBIJERRI Theatre based on Wurundjeri land and Moogahlin Performing Arts on Gadigal land.
