Description

Organised by the Saltire Society Glasgow Branch

Presented by

Amanda Mackenzie Stuart and

The Bubblyjock Collective

Isobel Dunlop (1901-75) made a huge contribution to the Scottish music scene in the 20th century as an arts administrator, concert organiser, benefactor, music teacher, performer, commissioner and champion of contemporary young composers. She started the Saltire Music Group with Hans Oppenheim in 1951, then went on with him to co-found the Saltire Singers, who performed and recorded internationally.

Isobel was also a skilled composer. She wrote several instrumental and vocal works, pieces for a variety of chamber ensembles, and a one-act opera, The Silhouette. This lecture-recital will feature performances of Isobel’s song settings and instrumental music by The Bubblyjock Collective. It tells the story of her life through her own music, looking at her role in the Saltire Society and her contribution to the wider Scottish arts scene.
