IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD: An apocalyptic cabaret
Description
“It’s the End of the World” — Perseverance Street’s LEAP Program Confronts the Apocalypse, Youth, and What Truly Matters
What would you do if you knew the world was about to end?
Perseverance Street Theatre Company presents It’s the End of the World, a powerful new original production that asks this urgent question through music, movement, and raw, unfiltered storytelling. Opening 17 March at the Perseverance Street Studio, the work is the third major production from the company’s acclaimed youth initiative, LEAP (Leading, Emerging Artists Program).
Following the success of House of Desire (2023) and House of Fortune (2024), LEAP returns with a bold, emotionally resonant work that blends beautiful live music, unflinching physical theatre, and performances from some of the most talented young artists Gympie has to offer.
Beginning in October 2025, a cast of 12 artists aged 15–22 embarked on an intensive creative process under the direction of Fletcher Colfs. Given the prompt “What would you do if you had one hour to live?”, the ensemble worked collectively to devise a piece that is both deeply personal and socially charged.
While the end of the world is the show’s premise, the themes that emerged are grounded firmly in the present: class, environmental instability, mental health, grief, and collective uncertainty.
Musical Director Sarah Harvey has worked closely with the cast throughout the process, bringing the show’s vocal and musical elements to life and ensuring the production is as musically compelling as it is emotionally confronting.
This project is funded by the Bendigo Bank Community Grants Program.
