It Starts With Us: a new documentary screening on preventing family violence
Event description
This acclaimed 30-minute documentary, filmed in Frankston North, follows a group of teenagers as they take part in a transformative arts-based prevention program. Guided by mentors including Rosie Batty, the young people use creativity to challenge the social pressures that fuel gender-based violence, showing the powerful impact of prevention ‘in action’.
Following the screening, young people from Frankston will join Respect Victoria CEO Helen Bolton, Productivity Commissioner and economist, Dr Angela Jackson and School Principal Peter Langham in a panel discussion facilitated by Professor Kate Fitz-Gibbon. Together, they will explore what prevention looks like, when it works, and how children and young people can contribute to shaping lasting change.
Cohosted by arts and social change organsiation Big hART, together with Respect Victoria, this event will be introduced by Tim Richardson (Parliamentary Secretary for Men’s Behaviour Change) and Paul Edbrook (MP for Frankston).
