It Starts With Us is a powerful documentary and social impact project developed alongside family violence prevention advocate Rosie Batty and young people from Frankston North, Victoria. Produced by the renowned arts and social change company Big hART, the project builds upon Project O - a successfully evaluated, arts-based prevention program delivered over the past decade with young people in communities across Australia experiencing high rates of family violence.
Family violence remains a critical national emergency in Australia, with 2 in 5 children under the age of 18 exposed. While there is an urgent need for innovative youth prevention programs, the sector currently receives less than 5% of overall funding. Without meaningful investment in prevention, true systemic change cannot happen.
By combining compelling film and passionate advocacy, It Starts With Us aims to raise vital awareness and drive much-needed funding toward youth-focused prevention programs nationwide, tackling the early behaviors and root conditions that lead to family violence.
