Italian science-film festival 2024 Climate change adaptation

As the globe warms, according to current combined emission reduction policies the average temperature would rise 2.7–3.1°C above pre-industrial levels by 2100, adaptation strategies need to be developed and implemented.

In this event, we will take inspiration from a fictional movie that describes a near future in which the city of Rome is experiencing a one year-long draught period, to highlight some threats that may potentially affect our communities, discuss the strategies to mitigate their consequences and the role that science should play in developing those policies.

The movie itself explores personal and human dynamics when facing an emergency, like humanity did many other times in the past: coping with it and taking care of their own survival, of their friends, of their neighborhood. It is the task of science to understand, describe and make predictions of the effect of the emergency on the global scenario and to support politics to develop mitigation strategies.
