Event Overview:
In the wake of International Women’s Day (IWD), the UNAA Young Professionals Queensland invites you to continue the conversation on women’s empowerment and representation in STEM. This Q&A and networking event will bring together industry leaders, emerging professionals, and advocates to discuss the challenges, successes, and opportunities for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The Speakers:
Riya Tailor - Senior Building Physics Engineer (Mott MacDonald)
Riya Tailor is a Senior Building Physics Engineer at Mott MacDonald, Australia. Riya has a background of low-energy building design from an operational and embodied approach. Having a holistic background in sustainable building and precinct design has lead her to investing further in innovative materials and design methods to reduce emissions across the whole life cycle. Her experience in circular design has lead to projects in Singapore, UK and more closely, Brisbane. Riya is a member of the MECLA working group who aim to improve Australia’s status on embodied carbon calculations and emissions.
Sally McPhee - Senior Manager – Strategic Partnerships (Griffith University)
Sally McPhee is an award-winning, dynamic STEM leader and a champion for women and girls in STEM. With over a decade of experience, she has led transformative initiatives and drives significant STEM partnerships. Sally was recognised for her contributions to this sector at a state level, awarded the Queensland’s Women in STEM Prize (Highly Commended) in 2021. Currently, as the Senior Manager – Strategic Partnerships at Griffith University she leads the strategic development and delivery of impactful STEM-based partnerships.
Lisa Baptista - Global Head of Technical Portfolio (BHP)
Lisa joined BHP in 2015 and held various Technical and Operations Execution roles prior to joining the Resources Centre of Excellence in 2021. Lisa is currently the Head of Technical Portfolio, creating value by embedding technical excellence with BHP's corporate development strategies. Lisa is also the Global Lead for Jasper, BHPs LGBTQI+ and Ally network.
Lisa has 20 years mining experience with various roles in Africa, the South Pacific and Australia including Operations Manager and Exploration Country Manager. She has led several major transformation projects which has given her the platform to make positive changes both to culture and productivity. Lisa is passionate about sustainable social value and advocating for Inclusion and Diversity.
Lisa and her partner are parents to three boys, Oisin, Daniel and Harry, as well as 2 Westie dogs, Archie and Dougal. Apart from spending time cycling, Lisa loves climbing and generally enjoying the outdoors.
