Event description

Greens Senator Dr Mehreen Faruqi is delighted to be hosting her seventh annual International Women's Day breakfast on Friday 5 March 2021. This series has become known for its honest and radical discussion of gender and race. The breakfast privileges the voices of women of colour.

Past speakers have included Nayuka Gorrie, Hawraa Kash, Roanna Gonsalves, Saman Shad, Nakkiah Lui, Randa Abdel-Fattah, Vanessa Turnbull-Roberts, Celeste Liddle and Diana Sayed.

This year we will be joined by Dr Umber Rind and Dr Natasha Deen.

Dr Rind is a general practitioner and proud Yamatji Badimaya woman with shared Aboriginal and Cameleer ancestry. In addition to running her medical practice and work on racism in health, Dr Rind works with Bubup Wilam, an Aboriginal Child and Family Centre, and is a board member of Women of Colour Australia.

Dr Natasha Deen is a health professional and environmental advocate who founded and directs the not-for-profit Save Our Coast. Natasha is passionate about equitable and empowering healthcare, holding a Masters in Public Health. Her activism foregrounds the impact of our natural world on our health and wellbeing, and the interconnectedness of social, First Nation and environmental justice.

Other special guests to be announced shortly.
