The Jackdaw Film Series Returns to Wagga Wagga Art Gallery

In celebration of the Halloween season we are thrilled to present UnCaged: A Nicholas Cage Double Feature! with a full tilt, no holds barred foray into Psychedelic Cosmic Horror Madness with our leading man Nicholas Cage, unleashing his full ‘Rage of Cage’ like no one else can!

Once again, we’ve transformed the Gallery into an amazing lounge-style ‘Cinémathèque’, to screen a double slab of delicious Cult film goodness with: Mandy 2018 and Color out of Space 2019 – featuring massive Dolby digital surround sound for an authentic big screen experience, with bar service and refreshments available.

Film Notes:

Mandy

Director Panos Cosmatos’s sophomore feature gives us the action-packed horror thriller ‘Mandy’. Kaleidoscopic and visually stunning, ‘Mandy’ follows the lives of couple Red Miller and Mandy Bloom, who are very much happy and in love until their tranquil existence is thwarted by a vicious Manson-esque cult. Set in 1983, 'Mandy’ thoroughly commits itself to delivering a candy-coloured, 80s hellscape. Bloody, shocking, and enticingly vivid, this film takes its viewer on a visual and auditory hallucinogenic journey, and let's face it, the reason most people will see the film is to take this trip with Nicolas Cage, and in that sense, giving Cage an organic, narratively justified reason to go full-Cage, digging deep into his reservoir of utter insanity is never a bad thing to behold.

Stay up late for Color out of Space

After a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm, Nathan Gardner and his family find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism that infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a technicolor nightmare.

The triumphant return of Cult film Director Richard Stanley, this Phantasmagorical Lovecraftian Horror evolves from a science fiction into the realm of body horror, producing some of the most gruesome practical effects work seen since The Thing, yet with the eponymous ‘Color’ from outer space, it also produces some strangely beautiful imagery on screen and of course Nicolas Cage produces one of his classic off-the-wall performances that is the perfect match for Stanley’s style.

The Jackdaw Film Series is especially curated by and for lovers of independent, experimental and cult genre cinema, celebrating directors who are still willing to take risks and push the boundaries of the film genre in an age of endless remakes, sequels, and polished blockbusters.

Our ‘double features’ revel in the shared "cinematic experience" to invite our audiences into a fully immersive and captivating environment providing an amazing social atmosphere that enhances the enjoyment of beloved films of our past and newer gems of limited theatrical release.
