Jake Yang | Introspection delves into Yang’s self-reflective, contemplative and identity explorative work through a wide range of media; from ceramics to oil paint to fabric paint on curtain material, Yang's adaptability is paramount. Unearthing the complexity within while raising discourse on ‘duality in identity’, where Yang explores being ‘ethnically Chinese raised within the Australian culture’, each work presents as an insight into the life of Yang.
Born and raised in Adelaide, Jake Yang is currently studying a Bachelor of Visual Arts at Adelaide Central School of Art. His evolving practice explores various disciplines, notably sculpture, drawing and painting. Yang’s practice is based on an exploration of identity and self, with strong links to his Chinese heritage and the influences of contemporary Western culture. Yang’s combination of traditional and non-traditional media with his colourful thematic references results in an engaging and diverse practice.
Exhibition continues until 22 July
