Dancing with death provides an interesting perspective on life. Genre-fluid pop artist, multi-instrumentalist and brain cancer survivor Jaime Jackett is a powerful and evocative performer based in Broome, Western Australia. Jackett’s music delicately treads the contrast between light and dark, deliberately juxtaposing them, and playing with the patterns and shadows they create.
"Life is short. Death isn't at the end of the line, but beside you the whole way."
With a dynamic voice that morphs from glass clear and sweet, to blues-drenched wails, Jackett draws in audiences with her raw delivery, story and grit. Anchored by hooks, her music is influenced by a wide range of genres drawing in pure pop, folk and soul. Her cleverly penned lyrics tell tales of love, tribulations, and connection to the planet and community.
Jackett is best known for her work in Austral-Canadian folk-pop band Belle Miners with whom she has toured internationally. The band recorded their debut record with Juno and Grammy Award winning producer Joby Baker, during which time Jackett was recovering from ‘impossible’ brain surgeries.
Sharing her story to empower others, for 3 years she has run her ‘Song a Day May’ fundraiser - writing a song each day for brain cancer research. 8 of these songs have found their way onto her debut album, ‘Reinvention’ - recorded with Bunbury producer James Newhouse in late 2023 - released Sept 6th, 2024
