January Teacher Professional Development: Educators' Morning at the South Australian Museum
Event description
Are you an educator looking for new ways to excite and inspire your students? Join us on Thursday 18 January for a special Professional Development session introducing teachers and educators to two fascinating new exhibitions at the South Australian Museum: GONDWANA VR: The Exhibition, and Yankunytjatjara Wangka! Keeping Ancestral Voices Alive.
Explore a 180-million-year-old forest
Enjoy special out-of-hours access to GONDWANA VR: The Exhibition, a world-first experience bringing the wild and ancient World Heritage-listed Daintree tropical rainforest to Adelaide, with a strong environment/science focus informed by climate data and projections and the Museum's Natural Science collections. The exhibition runs until 17 March, so there's plenty of time to plan ahead.
Leave English at the door
Learn how to immerse your students in the language and culture of the Yankunytjatjara community, and hear from members of the University of Adelaide's Mobile Language Team about their ongoing work supporting and reviving First Nations languages across the state. You'll also receive a free set of language cards for use in your classroom, featuring artwork by Yankunytjatjara artist Myra Kumantjara.
Plus, explore our new Minerals Trolley
Join expert mineralogist Ben McHenry as he unveils our recently designed Minerals Trolley, full of fascinating specimens and rock-solid geological insights that will add new layers to your next Museum visit.
This event is perfect for teachers of HASS, Science, Media Arts, Visual Arts and primary classrooms, and are perfect for showcasing how the Museum can offer curriculum-aligned learning opportunities out of the classroom and inside.
Bring a teacher friend and spread the word – attendees can enjoy a free coffee at the Museum Café, and receive a certificate for 90 minutes of Professional Development.
Are you a First Nations educator? The Museum has an allocation of free tickets for this event to support professional development for First Nations education professionals. Just contact us via the email address below to access these tickets. Places are limited.
