Japanese Calligraphy for Children
Event description
Write, explore, and learn about the refined art of traditional Japanese calligraphy. Participants in this workshop will be able to choose letters to learn to write from three sets of Japanese characters: Hiragana, Katakana, or Kanji. Participants will learn to write with a traditional Japanese calligraphy brush and will take home a gorgeous piece of art of their own making.
Maiko was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan and began practising calligraphy at just five years old under the guidance of her mother - also a calligrapher. Maiko became a master of Japanese traditional calligraphy in 2017 and has held workshops for children and adults throughout Eastern Japan. Maiko now lives in Tasmania with her family.
Please note: this course is suitable for children and young people. While children participate, parents and carers can wander the market and browse the stalls and enjoy some delicious food and the music on one of our two stages, in the barn and outdoors!
There is plenty of parking onsite and the venue is accessible, with accessible toilets. If you have any questions, please email us at events@ccc.tas.gov.au or call 03 6217 9607.
