Event description

Learn how to breathe fresh life into your old and frayed - but still beloved - clothes using traditional Japanese hand sewing techniques!

Rather than throwing them away and adding to landfill, our class will show you how to live a little more sustainably and give your clothes a new lease of life.

In this relaxed Sunday morning workshop with experienced tutor Suzanne Strachan, you'll be shown the beautiful Japanese techniques of Sashiko and Boro stitching.

Not only is this a great way to extend the life of your clothes, but it also allows you to create beautiful and original samplers, wall hangings, cushions and much more.

We'll have a range of small pieces of fabric which you can use to patch up garments, together with Sashiko threads. Either bring along an item that you'd like to mend and embellish, or we'll have fabric samples you can work on to practise your stitching and designs.

We'll also provide lots of tea, coffee and homemade cake to help your concentration!

The workshop will be led by expert sewer, knitter and textiles consultant, Suzanne Strachan.

“very good participation workshop. Really good seeing a selection of samples”
