Description
JARSQUAD brings people together through communal food-preservation, to practice sharing ingredients, recipes, and know-how by making jams and preserves as a ‘squad’.
We will chop and chat to turn summer surplus ingredients to jams, chutneys, ferments and other tasty preserves!
No experience necessary, just a willingness to get chatting and involved with some food prep and cooking. :)

There's no obligation for you to stay the entire duration but it would be great to have as much of your company as possible.
In addition to your ticket contribution, we'd welcome any extra fruit or supplies you'd like to offer/trade using our exchange rate (image below) onsite.
Ticket costs and fair access
Our workshops normally cost £16 per person at minimum — but thanks to support from the Network for Social Change, we're able to offer tickets to our workshops on a flexible price basis. We don't want cost to be a barrier for anyone, but do pay what feels right so JarSquad can stick around. 🩷

What your donation can do
Not sure how much to give? Here's what different contributions make possible:
£6 — covers material and equipment cost
£16 — covers your full workshop cost (including facilitation)
£32 — funds a session for yourself and someone who needs a free ticket and couldn't otherwise afford to come
£50 — covers the small material costs of running JarSquad for a month
£100 — covers a week of a non-material overheads, such as insurance, rent, utilities.
£250+ — supports us to care for the needs of our team, helps us stick around, and increases our reach!

FAQs
- Do I have to bring anything?
We ask attendees to bring a cash donation if possible (if you haven't opted to make an online donation), and their own apron, hair ties/coverings. In addition, we welcome any surplus produce or commonly used staples like sugar or vinegar - which we can trade for extra filled jars!
- How much should I pay?
Do offer what you can joyfully and meaningfully give to help us cover things outside our Exchange Rate. These include our overheads, venue costs, and the energy we contribute so we can keep the project going.
The statements below may help you assess what to choose:
== GIVE £1-£6: If you are on benefits, state pensions, or very low income and with no assets
== GIVE £7-£16: If you earn an income that enables you/your household to meet your basic needs
== GIVE £17+ (in solidarity): £16 covers one standard ticket, and any additional contribution helps cover a GIFT ticket so someone can attend for free.
== Please have a GIFT ticket for free if that's what you need
- But I can't afford to attend?
JarSquad offers free GIFT tickets (alongside our flexible price tickets) as it is important to us that our events are financially accessible for everyone.
Please pick the GIFT ticket option if that's what you need - we don't ask for you to evidence anything and look forward to you joining us. 🩷
- I don't know how to make online payments. Can I bring a cash contribution instead?
Yes, we have an option for a "I'll bring a cash donation" ticket where you bring a cash contribution if you are unable to make online card payments.
- What is solidarity economy?
We understand 'solidarity economy' to mean actions such as 'mutual aid', or arrangements that prioritize social benefits over financial profits, often involving the active participation of people involved to shape these actions/arrangements.
We'd love if you'd like to be part of our 'squad' in this more involved way! We warmly welcome chats (whilst chopping!) about what it means to co-create a gift economy, and how we already participate in alternative and diverse economies here in Plymouth.
