Jason Vieaux & Jiji
Event description
Two acclaimed guitarists take the stage for a dynamic evening of solo performances. Grammy-winner Jason Vieaux, hailed by Gramophone as “among the elite of today’s classical guitarists,” brings nuance, depth, and brilliance to the classical tradition. Praised by NPR as “perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation,” Vieaux has appeared at Lincoln Center, the Concertgebouw, and the Seoul Arts Center, performed with major orchestras across North America, and earned a Grammy Award for his album Play. His performances, whether of Bach, Rodrigo, or newly commissioned works, are celebrated for their eloquence and expressive power.
Joining him is JIJI, praised by The Washington Post as “mesmerizing” and “stirring.” Equally at home on acoustic and electric guitar, she is an adventurous artist whose performances span classical masterpieces, new commissions, and boundary-pushing contemporary works. Named by The Washington Post as “one of the 21 composers/performers who sound like tomorrow,” she has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Herbst Theatre, and performs widely as concerto soloist with major orchestras. In 2016, she became the first guitarist in 30 years to win the Concert Artists Guild Competition.
Together, Vieaux and JIJI bring two vibrant artistic voices to one stage—one rooted in the elegance of the classical guitar tradition, the other boldly reimagining its future. From timeless works to modern soundscapes, this program reveals the guitar’s remarkable versatility in an unforgettable San Francisco performance presented by the Omni Foundation for the Performing Arts.
