Jazz Orchestra Composer Series Presents: Oscar Läven

The second act in our line up of concerts is Oscar Lavën. After leading an elcectic array of musical projects, flamboyant saxophonist / multi-instrumentalist Oscar Lavën is excited to draw together a vibrant collection of all-star musicians from various backgrounds under one roof in a premiere of thrilling new original music, drawing influence from early American swing, blues, classical music, spiritual jazz and 50’s bar-walking rock & roll saxophone. 

Prepare to be swept into a surreal cinematic world by the Elegant Calamity Orchestra; strings, woodwinds, brass, virtuosic percussionists and a deep-digging rhythm section, combining kaleidoscopic orchestral colours with the dangerous spontaneity of a small group. A unique performance not to be missed.

The Jazz Orchestra Composer Series showcases original music for large jazz ensemble by New Zealand composers. Concerts take place every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, from May to October, from 7pm. Tickets are $15, door sales $20.
