South West Music Regional Conservatorium present Jazz @ The Crossing Featuring The Ava McDermott Quartet. A jazz band comprising of prize winning students from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music – University of Melbourne.

Ava McDermott is a vocalist and composer from Naarm (Melbourne). Proficient in both classical and jazz styles, Ava is a versatile musician, drawing from a range of musical traditions and techniques with a significant focus on improvisation.
Ava began studying classical voice with Timothy Reynolds and Dermott Tutty at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. Whilst attending there she also received lessons in jazz vocal studies from Michelle Nicolle.
Ava was awarded the Margaret Schofield Memorial Scholarship in 2022 for her high-achieving VCE performance results and dedication to a career in music performance.
In 2024, Ava was awarded the prestigious Generations In Jazz Vocal Scholarship - a testament to her dedication to a career in performance.
Ava has a wide scope of performance experience ranging from the Melbourne Recital Centre to 3MBS Live and to integral Melbourne jazz venues including at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival in 2023, the Brunswick Green, The Jazzlab and the Paris Cat, performing with leading Australian jazz and classical musicians such as James Sherlock, Andrea Keller, Sandy Evans, Gian Slater, Sunny Kim, Stewart Kelly, Dermott Tutty and Blakely McLean-Davies.
Currently, Ava is studying a Bachelor of Music in Jazz & Improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts, studying with Michelle Nicolle, Gian Slater, Barney McAll and Sunny Kim.
