Event description

Please join us on Monday October 10 from 5.30pm until 8.00pm for the - Jeff Shaw Memorial Scholarship Lecture – the Keynote speaker is Justice Michael Kirby at PSA House, Level 11, 160 Clarence Street Sydney

Unions NSW and Elizabeth Shaw and her family have established a scholarship fund through the Public Education Foundation (PEF) as part of the legacy and in honour of the late Honourable Jeff Shaw. The fund has been set up to provide scholarships to students.

The Unions NSW Jeff Shaw Memorial Scholarship supports students moving into Year 12 in 2022, providing them with $2,500 to assist in the crucial final year of their secondary school education.

Last year we were able to fund four scholarships and were not able to fund additional outstanding applicants and we would like to raise more money for this year’s scholarships.

The applications were outstanding, and we discussed the possibility of trying to get more donations to fund additional scholarships. These scholarships make such a difference to the lives of the students who have already received scholarships in the past. Please see here for responses by scholarship recipients on how their scholarships will help them.

Click here to donate to the Public Education Foundation, and please include "Unions NSW Jeff Shaw Memorial" in the comments section so PEF can identify the donation.

The Hon Jeff Shaw served as an ALP member of the legislative Assembly, and he was Minister for Industrial Relations and the Attorney General of New South Wales (1995–2000). In this time, he worked closely with all the unions to deliver some of the most progressive and just legislation for the citizens of NSW.

The Public Education Foundation (PEF) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing life changing scholarships to young people in public education, as well as their teachers and principals.

PEF exists to support students with particular educational needs or talents reach their full potential and improve overall educational outcomes. We focus on removing the barriers to achievement created by social and economic disadvantage. If you are unable to attend, we would greatly appreciate it if you could donate.

On behalf of Elizabeth Shaw and her family.
