Australian Grateful Dead tribute acts Shakedown Prophets , Deadnecks and Rambling Roses come together for the first nation wide deadhead gathering/ celebration on what would be Jerry Garcias 80th birthday.


Announcing two amazing shows to be performed in Melbourne and Sydney by these talented artists and Grateful Dead music curators. The performances will capture the true spirit of Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead, focusing on their musical legacy and culture.

The performance catalogue will expand from his humble beginnings as a banjo picker in the Palo Alto bluegrass/folk scene with Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions (with future GD band members Bob Weir and Ron “Pigpen” McKernan. The Black Mountain Boys (which included lifelong writing partner Robert Hunter), to later spearheading The Warlocks and ultimately the Dead.Jerry “Captain Trips” Garcia was truly a salt of the earth and one of a kind individual. Although he never sought the fame that so often found him while playing in one of the most enduring rock bands in American history. 

The music he wrote alongside Hunter and performed with the Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band continues to transcend time and will forever remain a testament as to what can happen when you embrace the light in the strangest of places.

Jerry provided the world with some of the most profound and vibrant musical zeniths ever achieved by an American artist.Jerry Garcia Birthday Celebrations kick off on Friday 29th July at The Gaso, Melbourne followed by the Sydney concert on August 6th at Red Rattlers.

Falling in between Jerry Garcia’s birthday on August 1 and the day he died on August 9. 

The event will also feature special appearances from guests, friends and support acts.The master minds behind this collaborative project, in association with Jambands Australia are Ben Chakravorty (Sydney guitarist and founder of Shakedown Prophets). Along with Luke Plumb (Rambling Roses, JamGrass Festival), Jason Taylor (founder JamGrass Festival) and Blake Savanah (Giant Drop Records, Deadnecks).All are welcome to take part in these two special events, sharing love and laughter with friends and family alike. Celebrating the lasting effect that Jerry Garcia and his music had on all of us.
