Jewellery from Plastic Debris with artist Melinda Young
Description
Illawarra jewellery designer Melinda Young will lead this free creative workshop as part of the Eco-Lab 2026 residency @ the NASA Gallery at the Servo.
Working with gathered marine plastics, soft plastic bags and domestic plastics, this workshop introduces a range of simple jewellery making techniques including drilling, stitching, stringing and cordage which are then applied to your gathered materials to create beautiful wearable objects for the body, such as a necklace, bracelet, earrings or brooch.
What you need to know:
suitable for adults
please arrive 15 mins before the event starts
the workshop will take place at The Servo undercover.
Please bring:
a pair of sturdy scissors if you have them
your own washed plastic beach debris, clean recycled plastics and clean plastic bags.
the artist will supply additional materials, tools and tuition.
About ECO-LAB
This workshop is part of Eco-Lab 2026
Eco-Lab is a creative program to share the practices of diverse artists from the Illawarra and beyond, with community, fostering ecological awareness, care for Country and meaningful engagement with place.
Eco-Lab will be in residence at the NASA Gallery, the Servo, Port Kembla from 24 October to 08 November.
