Plein air in Your Pocket with artist Sarah Anderson
Description
Local artist and horticulturalist Sarah Anderson will lead this free creative workshop as part of the Eco-Lab 2026 residency @ the NASA Gallery at the Servo.
A workshop for capturing moments outdoors through sketching on paper with whatever materials hide in your bag. It’s a really great way to ‘see’ a landscape by recording what interests the participant.
What you need to know:
suitable for adults
some walking in the vicinity of the Servo involved, please wear suitable footwear, bring a hat and waterbottle.
please arrive 15 mins before the event starts
in the event of bad weather, the workshop will take place at The Servo undercover.
Please bring:
a portable stool/camping chair that is easy to carry if you have one
loose papers or a small sketchbook and your favourite sketching media (pen, pencil, watercolour) but keep it simple!
the artist will supply additional papers and art materials.

This workshop is part of Eco-Lab 2026
Eco-Lab is a creative program to share the practices of diverse artists from the Illawarra and beyond, with community, fostering ecological awareness, care for Country and meaningful engagement with place.
Eco-Lab will be in residence at the NASA Gallery, the Servo, Port Kembla from 24 October to 08 November.
