An afternoon with Joan Russell OAM and friends
Description
In-conversation with Joan Russell OAM: celebrating a remarkable woman and her extraordinary life.
Moderator: Emma McEwin
Join us for an afternoon of outrageous truth telling, celebrating a life well lived, shared with friends, family, dogs and other partners-in-crime.
Joan is a feminist, community leader, adventurer, trailblazer, and as it turns out, trendsetter. Whether it be the SA Public Service, Equal Opportunity, Social Justice, the Women's Electoral Lobby, Antarctic Station Leader, and much more, strap yourself in for an incredible ride.
Joan will be joined by Emma McEwin, a writer and a great-grandchild of Antarctic explorer, Douglas Mawson. She has a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Adelaide, and is the author of two books, An Antarctic Affair (2008) and The Many Lives of Douglas Mawson (2018). Emma has been to the Antarctic twice, as a guest of Aurora Expeditions. She is godmother to their newest ship, the Douglas Mawson, and was a passenger on the ship’s inaugural voyage to the Antarctic in December 2025. She works at Adelaide University.
