Description
We celebrate the 2026 Red Room National Poetry Month this August in hosting contemporary Australian poet and prose writer, joanne burns, accompanied by Eileen Chong and Tricia Dearborn.
joanne burns has had many books of poetry published since the early 1970s. Her most recent book ‘apparently’ was published by Giramondo Press in 2019. She will read poems from a recently completed manuscript ‘rummage’.
The Stanley Street Gallery Poetry Program is a quarterly Saturday afternoon event in a contemporary art space in Darlinghurst.
The Gallery has supported poets and poetry through the longstanding facilitation of Poetry Alive, and this program has been held since 2024.

Eileen Chong
Eileen Chong is a Sydney poet who was born in Singapore of Hokkien, Hakka and Peranakan descent. She is the author of eleven books. She is the 2025 recipient of the Shanghai Western Sydney Writing Fellowship and a 2026 BR Whiting Studio Residency in Rome. Her most recent book is We Speak of Flowers (UQP, 2025). She lives and works on unceded Gadigal land.
Tricia Dearborn
Tricia Dearborn is an award-winning Australian poet, writer and editor. Her work has been widely published in literary journals and featured in anthologies including Best of Australian Poems and The Anthology of Australian Prose Poetry. Her most recent poetry books are Autobiochemistry and She Reconsiders Life on the Run. She has been a judge for the University of Canberra VC’s International Poetry Prize, and guest poetry editor for various literary journals, including Cordite Poetry Review and Rabbit: a journal of non-fiction poetry. Tricia is the co-editor (with Alicia Sometimes) of the forthcoming Australian Poetry Journal 15.2: amplitude. Her new collection, Goatscape, is coming out with Cordite Books in 2027.
