Welcome to Indigenous Permaculture & Water Sequestration - Hands On Workshop!

Join the Turtle Island Permaculture Institute (TIPI) and the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy (SOLC) for a day of learning and fun. This workshop will dive deep into the importance of water sequestration in our region. Get your hands dirty and learn practical techniques to improve soil and ecosystem health.

No experience is necessary! Please wear sturdy pants, long sleeves, and close-toes shoes. Dress for the weather, bring layers. We will be working in a sloped pasture. We will provide gloves, digging tools, refreshments, and LUNCH!

When: Saturday November 21st from 10:00AM-4:00PM

Key Learnings:

  • Learn about water sequestration techniques that can promote plant health and reduce the impacts of drought

  • Discover native plants and seeds as well as local programs you can get involved in to access and protect them

  • Meet local experts who can assist with your projects

  • Integrate these learnings with important information about the local Native history and current efforts being made to recognize rights of nature, healing the divide between humans and our natural ecosystems

  • "Dig In" to hands-on activities which may including digging johads, planting trees, and more! There will be plenty to learn and plenty to do

Additional Important Information:

  • Space is limited, so we are capping the number of registrations. Please do not sign up if you are not certain you can make it. Registration will be closed a full day before the event, so don't wait until the last moment.

  • We will be walking over sloped and uneven terrain, carrying and using tools such as shovels and wheelbarrows. If you are unsure of your body's capability to do those things, please sit this one out.

  • Please wear sturdy pants, long sleeves, and close-toes shoes. Dress for the weather, bring layers. We will be working in a sloped pasture. We will provide gloves & digging tools. Waterproof boots up to the ankle are strongly recommended.

  • We will provide refreshments and LUNCH!

  • All ages welcome. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

  • Participate at your own risk. All attendees will be asked to sign a liability waiver.

  • Parking at the event will be limited, so carpooling is highly recommended. We will reach out closer to the event to support participants in arranging carpooling, probably meeting at Shop n' Kart, which is about 5 minutes away.

  • Can my child come?

    All ages welcome. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

  • Where do I park?

  • Do I need to sign a waiver to participate?

    Yes, a waiver will be provided after registration and before the event. All participants will need to sign the liability waiver. Participate at your own risk.

  • What if it's raining?

    Unless the weather is really nasty, we will be proceeding, even in the rain. Please dress appropriately.

  • Can I bring my dog or other pet?

    No. Please leave your companion animals at home or arrange other care for them.

  • Will there be animals at the event?

    You may have the opportunity to interact with the horse and dog that live on this land, depending upon their interest in engaging with you.
