John Jones | Coast to Courses | Maroochydore Library Artspace
Event description
Caloundra Regional Gallery in collaboration with Sunshine Coast Libraries proudly presents the next exhibition for the Maroochydore Library Artspace.
John Jones, born in Birmingham England, moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2017. As a child, Jones was always drawing and painting, and when he was 11, he was accepted into a specialist art High School. Now retired, Jones rekindled his interest in art by completing an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts as a mature aged student.
Coast to Courses depicts many local landmarks around the Sunshine Coast, including the beaches, wharf, hinterland, and some of the local wildlife. For the audience, it is the opportunity to see the artist’s view of local sights, highlighting the beauty and the benefits of our region.
“In the last 15 years I have painted constantly - landscapes, portraits, vehicles in fact anything that inspires me. The Sunshine Coast environments provide the inspiration for much of my work, however old photographs, vintage cars and family regularly feature.
My aim with this group of paintings is to show what is achievable after retirement from paid employment.
Too often we are defined by our occupation, our school, where we live, whereas we should be defined by who we are, our interests and how we can continue to learn and develop as a person.
Coast to Courses will show what can be accomplished, how we can reinvent ourselves and, hopefully, give others the encouragement to try something that takes you out of yourself and challenges.”
