    Event description

Booranga Writer's and The Curious Rabbit presents John Stephenson author talk and open Mic. After a career teaching mainly foreign adult and university students wishing to refine their English skills, John has concentrated on his literary aspirations. He has published three novels, all set historically. The Optimist is a portrait of the poet Christopher Brennan as a young man, set in Goulburn, NSW and Sydney in 1891. The Bakers Alchemy is a village marriage comedy set in Russian-ruled eastern Poland in 1870 near the ancient Bialowieza Forest; and Requiem For A Riot is an Australian war correspondent’s experience of US Army-garrisoned Brisbane in the days leading to the November 1942 street riots known as “The Battle of Brisbane”. Together the novels required extensive research and travel in the USA and Poland as well as Australia. Review comments for the books can be seen on his website.

John is working currently on a fourth novel. He is keen to meet and contribute whatever he can to the creative writing community at Booranga and in Wagga Wagga.

After John's reading there will be an open mic.
