From Small Talk to Strong Connections

We are pleased to announce Canterbury chapter the Women’s Infrastructure Network (WIN) and the Christchurch branch of the Project Management Institute of New Zealand (PMINZ) are joining forces for this breakfast event, with breakfast kindly being provided by event sponsor Anderson Lloyd.

WIN's mission is to support women working in our industries and to champion each other. PMI's mission is complementary, seeking to use global advocacy, collaboration, education and research to prepare professionals around the world for the Project Economy. The event is a breakfast function with guest speakers.

Join us to hear from four inspirational panellist with the emphasis on networking: Cel (Maricel) Medes Dijamco (ALXEMY), Ishaan Kovoor (Synlait Milk), Laura Drummond (Stantec) and Rebecca Mehrtens (Aurecon) who will share their career stories and learnings, and provide insights into networking strategy. This event is also a fantastic opportunity to expand your network and make new contacts across different sectors.

We will have a series of questions for the panellists to answer regarding their careers and journey in in networking, and advice for others on building their network. The intention will be that this will be an informal discussion between panellists and attendees.

This event is open to members of PMINZ and WIN Canterbury.

About the Presenter:

1. Cel Medes – Director of PMO and Operations at Alxemy

PMO and Operations Director and PMI Global and New Zealand Awards Judge, bringing more than 25 years of experience across project and programme delivery, PMO leadership, professional services, business transformation and migrations globally.

2. Ishaan Kovoor – Programme Manager at Synlait Milk Limited

Ishaan Kovoor is a Strategy Manager at Synlait Milk with extensive experience in innovation, product development, and programme and project management across the dairy and beverage industries. He has led multidisciplinary teams, delivered market-access programmes and helped bring new products from initial concept through to commercial launch. Ishaan is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and holds a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Mechatronics from the University of Canterbury.

3. Laura Drummond – Group Leaders Environment Science, New Zealand, Stantec

Laura Drummond is the Group Leader for Environmental Science in New Zealand, based in Stantec’s Christchurch office. She has 19 years of environmental consulting, research and project management experience across New Zealand and Canada, specialising in assessing the effects of infrastructure development and land use on ecological values.

Laura leads a team of ecologists, water quality scientists, hydrogeologists, contaminated land and solid waste experts within Stantec. She works to integrate these specialists into large multidisciplinary project teams, to provide practical solutions for internal and clients, and the environment. As an advocate for women in STEM, Laura mentors a diverse group of females to provide advice on career progression and overcoming challenges within the industry.

4. Rebecca Mehrtens – Energy & Industrial Leader, New Zelaand, Aurecon

Rebecca has worked in Aotearoa New Zealand's infrastructure and energy sectors for 20 years, establishing herself as a respected executive with extensive experience across government, private industry, and consultancy. Currently, she leads the Energy and Industrial business at international consultancy Aurecon, where she oversees the organisation's second largest business with 160 people in 6 locations (including newly hired into Manila in the Philippines) across renewable energy, fuels, transmission, and manufacturing. A passionate advocate for DEI, Rebecca chairs Ngākau Hihiko – Wāhine in Energy, a national membership group with a kaupapa of amplifying diverse voices and developing the next generation of leaders in the energy sector.
