JOSEPH WELLS LIVE ON THE GOLDEN STAGE WITH MIND AT EASE / TEN TOES SHORT FILM SCREENING

Joseph Wells is a storyteller in the purest form, who has grown up predominately in Sydney’s South Western suburbs of Riverwood and Bankstown.

From a young age, Joseph was introduced to a wide variety of music. Surrounded by lots of instruments at home too, it was a natural progression when Joseph was first exposed to performing music at church, learning to sing, play the guitar, drums whilst the parents were conversing, even the harmonica too.

This curiosity unfolded throughout his dive into film & photography respectably, as well as his eventual growth into exploring production and MC’ing. Wells takes inspiration from he R&B / Jazz of Solange, production & visual aesthetics of Pharrell, 90’s hip hop, as well as modern Oakland & New York hip hop flavours such as Mike, Overcast & Madane.

Accompanying the performance will be a screening of Mind at Ease / Ten Toes, a short film by Joseph Wells and Beat Kitchen Records.

This short film playfully explores the life of Joseph Wells and his upbringing, growing up between public housing in Western Sydney and exploring the wider city throughout his formative years. Through the cinematography, the short film romantically portrays mundane corners of our city that have typically been overlooked. Musically, the film is a reflection of the emerging underground hip-hop scene coming out of Sydney. Joseph alongside Yibby, Scruffs & Tee8 bring a fresh perspective to what Australian alternative hip-hop means in 2023.
