Internationally renowned jazz musician and educator Joshua Breakstone is delivering two workshops at JMI!

Vocal Workshop: Singing Bebop and Beyond (1pm to 2:15pm)

What does it take to be a singer? And what does it take to be a jazz singer? We'll discuss the difference between the two and the musical skills you need to possess and master in order to be a true jazz singer. Listening, reacting, dynamics, developing ideas. Not all talk, we’ll be singing too- I promise! If you would like to bring a song- depending on the number of participants- we may, hopefully, get a chance to play around with it together. Some hard work, some major fun too!

Instrumental Workshop: Bebop and Beyond (2:30pm to 3:45pm)

What does the music of the masters tell us about how to play expressively? This is an improvisation workshop which will deal with ways to develop our own voices, to express ourselves uniquely, to say something special and unique and in our own way. Bring your instrument!
